In a bold initiative the five major distance running festivals in Central NSW have joined forces to form the NSW Regional Distance Running Championships.
Combined these events are a great showcase for distance running in Australia, offering prizemoney and trophies for category and overall competitions.
Events cover three marathons, five half-marathons and five 10K races in 2020.
How It Works
You don't need to do anything except enter the Marathon, Half Marathon or 10K Run in any number of the 5 Running Festivals in 2020. To allow the widest possible participation, the championships will be for men and women in age sections 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and over 60. An open category drawn from all the age categories will allow for an overall mens and womens NSW Regional Distance Running Champion and placegetters. All finishers in each race will be awarded a point, with the top 9 runners receiving bonus points.
I think this Regional Championship is a tremendous concept. So much of Australia’s talented running stock has come from regional areas - this will showcase a lot of not only country NSW’s but even Australia’s future running talent - hopefully an Olympian or two can be unearthed during this series. Apart from giving up and comers a chance to shine, the recreational runners will have a great opportunity to run PB’s in their own territory.

Orange Running Festival saw a record field contest their Half Marathon to kick off the series. With four more events to go, there is plenty of opportunity to gain points in all categories.
